چکیده

Gentrification, as one example of complex urban behaviors, has enjoyed the spotlight among researchers in various fields of study such as economics, politics, sociology, and geography for about four decades. Most former research discusses theoretical issues, causes, and consequences of gentrification, but do not typically focus on building models to describe the dynamical process of gentrification. This thesis reports on an agent based model for simulating the phenomenon of inner-city gentrification using hybrid models of Cellular Automata (CA) and Multi Agent Systems (MAS) design and effort has been put into constructing an exploratory model of gentrification. The model method involves functions of CA and MAS focusing on behavior of agents, which are residential mobility and residents’ decision-making processes at micro-scale. The simulation model is applied to the Gateway district and its northern neighborhood in Salt Lake City, Utah. In order to test the model of gentrification, various hypotheses from gentrification theory are posed in

Post modern comfort as a factor in gentrification of city, modeled in Cellular Automata

The aim of this study is to investigate the discrete factors of gentrification modeled by cellular Automata. The gentrification is the arriving of middle and high social classes in the inner-city areas. It corresponds to the residential mobility of solvent households, attracted by residential comfort and the central retailing equipment. The proximity, diversity and quality of this equipment bec...

Modeling gentrification dynamics: A hybrid approach

This paper introduces a hybrid automata model for testing ideas and hypotheses relating to urban gentrification dynamics. We focus on the agency of relocating households in dynamic property markets as the theoretical basis for construction of the model. The methodology employed makes use of hybridized cellularand agent-automata that allow for representation of co-interaction among fixed and mob...

Improving Agent Performance for Multi-Resource Negotiation Using Learning Automata and Case-Based Reasoning

In electronic commerce markets, agents often should acquire multiple resources to fulfil a high-level task. In order to attain such resources they need to compete with each other. In multi-agent environments, in which competition is involved, negotiation would be an interaction between agents in order to reach an agreement on resource allocation and to be coordinated with each other. In recent ...

Simulation and Evaluation of Urban Development Scenarios Using Integration of Cellular Automata Model and Game Theory

Urban growth is a dynamic and evolutionary spatial and social process that relates to the changes of urban spatial units and the transformation of people’s lifestyles and consequently demographic changes. Considering the urban development process as a function of land uses interactions, population structure and the strategic behavior of the agents involved in the urban development process (the ...

Obstacles of Iranian Inner-Cities Gentrification (Case Study: Navvab Project, Tehran, Iran)

One of the results of urban renovation is population displacement. If these renovations lead to live prosperous social classes, it is called gentrification. In this regard one of the urban renovation strategies is gentrification that is equal in "the acceptability of texture in public opinion" and is known as a synonym of "improving the quality of living environment for residents and citizens"....
